Let’s have some fun diving into the famous, complex, musical & mythical world of
Balanchine.
We´re going to explore the 1-minute female “castanet” variation from the ballet
“Agon”. Choreographed by Balanchine in 1957 and is a landmark ballet that
exemplifies his collaboration with composer Igor Stravinsky. The choreography is a blend of classical ballet technique and modern dance elements.
Balanchine’s use of angular movements, intricate footwork, and unexpected rhythms
breaks away from traditional ballet norms, creating a stark, abstract aesthetic. The
variation is set to the rhythmic and percussive sound of castanets, creating a vibrant
and lively atmosphere.
This solo can be done with or without point shoes in the workshop and can easily be
adapted to different levels and backgrounds.
