PRODA is an independent foundation offering free, daily classes for professional dancers, teachers and choreographers. The class schedule contains of ballet, contemporary, release technique, jazz, hip hop, contact impro and alternative training like yoga and pilates.
PRODA was founded in 1988, by initiative from Norsk Ballettforbund (now: Norske Dansekunstnere, NoDa). PRODA is an important part of the infrastructure of the Norwegian dance field, and represents meeting points for dancers throughout the country. PRODA is mainly financed by the government, but in addition supported by several local fundings.
PRODA´s administration is located in Oslo where most of the dance activity takes place. PRODA Oslo arranges daily classes throughout the year. Here the members also have access to a smaller training studio, open Mond-Frid at 0930-1230. There are also smaller branches in 5 other areas of the country. These are: Bergen, Stavanger, Southern region, Trondheim, Northern Trøndelag and Northern Norway. These areas are run by local administrations who receive economic and administrative support from the main office in Oslo.Classes are either weekly, or weekend-based.
Membership at PRODA requires 3 years of professional dance education, and/or sufficient work experience as a professional dance artist. The members are freelance dance artists (dancers, teachers, choreographers) from many different dance areas, but most of whom work within contemporary, jazz and theatre dance. All PRODA classes are drop-in. Dance artist use PRODA for warm-up before rehersals, or self development and maintaining technique. Professional dancers visiting from abroad, or working on projects in Norway, are welcome to attend the classes.
